Charlie Stuart is founder of Making Faith Matter, a movement to help the local church return to the full gospel of Jesus. This is expressed best by Jesus when He taught us to pray, “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.” Charlie’s next book is titled Church the JESUS Way and explores this concept and ways the church can become the most powerful influence for good in lives and communities that the world has ever seen. At least that’s what Jesus said He expected of His followers.
Charlie Stuart founded Making Faith Matter, Inc., almost 10 years ago. During his research, it became overwhelmingly apparent that protestant churches in America had drifted far away from the mission Jesus set for Himself – to usher in the kingdom of God here on earth. One result was the development of a multi-week workshop for participants to explore their current and potential call to be “servants with Christ.”
Another result is the book Church the JESUS Way, exploring how and what could happen when the churches adopt “Kingdom of God on earth” as a primary purpose for the church to live, train and do.
Another finding that was just as apparent was that the leadership in the church at the denominational and local level, professional and lay, were unwilling or unable to see that all the traditional things the churches were doing and encouraging their members to do were creating a fulfillment in the members’ minds that they were “followers” of Christ. Jesus spoke in clear, simple terms about this when He said, recorded in Matthew 7:3, “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?”
What Jesus said, even commanded, about serving others, especially the “least of these” has taken a back pew to the other elements of the salvation gospel, all too often ignoring the service gospel that Jesus taught and lived.
Charlie was raised in the church by faithful, loving parents who lived lives of service to others for Charlie and his five siblings to see and emulate. He has been active in the local church all his life. He has served as Deacon, adult Bible study leader (20+ years), pastor search committee member, and in many other leadership roles.
He also volunteered for 25+ years with the YMCA as a local board member, on national task forces for the YMCA of the USA, and as a speaker and consultant on membership, philanthropy and mission.
For the last two decades of his professional life Charlie was as a business consultant, author and professional speaker on marketing and sales. His clients included businesses, associations and not-for-profit organizations across the United States and Canada. Charlie earned a degree in Business and Economics from the University of Florida.
Charlie and his wife of 40+ years, Barbara, have three grown children aged 38 to 34, and six grandchildren ages 7 to 1. They are active members of Church on the Drive in Orlando (College Park), Florida.
